The New York Giants..A Winning Football Team

Since 1925 the New York Giants have been entertaining and amazing the world of professional football. Through wars and the Great Depression, they managed to survive year after year. They do not always win but they always come back next season for another try.

In their first fifty years, the Giants went through four different stadiums. Finally, in 1976, The New York Giants played against the Dallas Cowboys in the first game at their brand new stadium. Giants Stadium has been their home since. As part of the Meadowlands Sports Complex, the stadium has seating for 80,064 people. The Meadowlands was built using only bonds that were sold to individuals. No taxpayer money was ever used to construct the stadium or any of the other structures located there.

The Giants are in for an exciting couple of years. In 2010, they are scheduled to begin playing at their new state of the art stadium, New Meadowlands Stadium. The new stadium will be bigger and better, with more of everything from parking, to restrooms, to seating and concessions. They will have four scoreboards rather than two, and will have more entry lanes and turnstiles.

This new $1.6 billion stadium will also have more access to public transportation. 2009 marks the opening of the new rail station located just a few yards from the new stadium. The new train system will greatly reduce traffic congestion and pollution around the stadium by running every ten to twenty minutes before and after any event that draws more than 50,000 people.

Part of the NFL’s Eastern Division of the National Football Conference (NFC), the Giants are the only one of the five teams that joined the NFL in 1925 that still exists. They are ranked third among all franchises with seven titles, including three Super Bowl wins. Although they have had some rocky periods and some coaching changes, they have enjoyed moderate success. Since hiring Tom Coughlin as their head coach in 2004, they have made it to the playoffs every year, although there have been no Super Bowls yet.

Not only do the New York Giants provide wonderful entertainment, but they are also very much a part of their community. They are involved in the Make A Wish Foundation, the United Way and many other programs. Much of the charity work done by the Giants is geared toward helping children, especially at-risk youth. They also donate all of the prepared but uneaten food from all of their events to a local soup kitchen, providing more than 13,000 meals a year to the homeless.

The New York Giants are a great, long lasting professional football team and an asset to their community. If you’re looking for entertainment, there’s nothing better than a Giants game.
